Sigiriya

Imagine a massive, flat-topped volcanic rock shooting straight up out of the green jungle. At the very top sit the ruins of an ancient palace built by a rogue king. Climbing the 1,200 steps past giant carved stone lion paws and colorful ancient wall paintings is a bit of a workout, but the 360-degree views from the summit are absolutely unforgettable.
